This light on a small island off the Llŷn Peninsula guided ships into the ports of the Gwynedd coast exporting slate from the mountain quarries. It was converted to operation by acetylene gas and a sun valve in 1922, allowing it to be automated and demanned. The light is operated by Trinity House, but the island is currently owned by TV adventurer Bear Grylls, having previously been the property of architect Clough Williams-Ellis, creator of the nearby Portmeirion Italianate village.
